Lincoln Highway Planning and Environmental Linkages Study

Village of Ford Heights, Illinois

Overview

Antero Group worked with the Village of Ford Heights, Cook County, IDOT, and other stakeholders to identify potential safety improvements along Lincoln Highway (US 30) between Cottage Grove Avenue and Torrence Avenue. The corridor was broken into three distinct sections based on the adjacent land uses. As alternatives were suggested by the stakeholders, public community, or study engineers, only alternatives that were feasible and improved the safety for one or more roadway users were allowed to move forward in the evaluation process. The section alternatives also needed to meet the requirement of being cohesive with the other sections of the study corridor.

Outcomes
  • Assessed the existing conditions within the study corridor including roadway conditions, travel patterns, safety, environmental constraints, land use and development patterns, and socioeconomic conditions.
  • Facilitated stakeholder and public engagement to collect feedback through survey, online communication, meetings, and public hearings.
  • Identified and evaluated design alternatives to improve safety for all roadway users.
  • Developed an alternative matrix based on the three corridor sections, right-of-way needs, and construction timing (near- and far-term alternatives).
  • Developed cost estimates to help with agency decision making on which elements could be implemented in the next phase of the project.
